London’s new kid on the block craft food and beer venue, Lockhouse, scoops best signature burger in this year’s National Burger Awards. Presented by Casual Dining Magazine the awards were judged by Hawksmoor co-founder Richard Turner, Byron head of food Fred Smith, Telegraph food writer Xanthe Clay and 2016 winner, Andy Waugh, founder of Mac & Wild.
Executive Head Chef, Chris Spencer, went head-to-head with 16 other finalists, including Loungers -Cosy Club, Las Iguanas and Meat & Shake, in a live cook-off at the Islington Metal Works on Wednesday 22nd February, where he grilled up a storm with Lockhouse’s signature Locked & Loaded burger. Featuring a prime chuck and rib beef patty topped with dry cured Norfolk smoked streaky bacon and two slices of American cheese, combined with Lockhouse burger sauce, shredded lettuce, red onion and gherkins, and sandwiched between a brioche bun, this signature classic is helping put Paddington firmly on London’s best burger trail.
Opened in Paddington Basin last December, Lockhouse has been dubbed ‘West London’s new food destination’ by The Resident Magazine, receiving rave reviews from hungry customers eager to try its authentic mix of premium, matured steak burgers, signature ‘Jam Jar’ salads and herb-basted spit roast chicken. All this washed down with an enviable selection of over 20 draught and bottled craft beers and a cocktail list that only dreams are made of.
Commenting on winning the award, Chris Spencer, executive head chef at Lockhouse says;
“We’re stoked to have won this award, especially as we’ve only been open for around two months. When we first started developing the Lockhouse concept one of our main goals was to be known for our burgers. To have such recognition in such a short period of time is breathtaking, even more so for our signature classic.
“The cook-off showed what great talent there is out there within the sector – never underestimate a simple burger – and the judges had a really tough call to make amongst some very stiff competition. Congratulations to all nominees and winners of the awards.”
